Description

More collaboration with Francois Theriault in New Brunswick, Canada, who is kindly sending me data from his backyard observatory while I wait for clear skies. This one is very faint so I had to stretch the image in Photoshop a lot before I saw anything but a few stars, Then, all of a sudden the nebula materialized and soon all that nebulosity turned up around it. I spent a few hours of challenging image processing. It is a narrowband image of just the glow from hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur nearly 6000 light years away, collected with a chilled CCD camera for 9.5 hours. This nebula, like many other faint ones, has no name but only has a number in a catalogue: Sh2-112. Anyone got an idea for a name?
